Claridge Hi-Tec L-9 9mm Pre-Ban Semi-Auto Pistol, Two-Tone Finish, Threaded 7.5" Barrel, Rare Collectible
Built in the early 1990s and produced in very limited numbers, the Claridge Hi-Tec L-9 stands out for its unique closed-bolt, blowback action derived from the Czech Sa Vz 23 SMG. This pre-ban, U.S.–made pistol features a factory two-tone matte silver/deep blued finish that was offered only on a small fraction of guns, making it especially desirable for collectors. A long, 7.5" button-rifled, threaded barrel sits under a ventilated steel shroud, while the top-mounted charging handle and heel-style magazine release give the L-9 its distinct look and handling.

The L-9 employs a telescoping-bolt system that keeps overall length manageable while still offering a full 7.5" barrel for optimized 9mm velocity. The barrel is button-rifled and threaded, giving owners the option to add compatible muzzle devices.
A deep-blued 4130 steel receiver contrasts with the matte silver frame, an uncommon factory combination that adds visual appeal and collector interest. Five large circular ports on the steel barrel shroud aid cooling and reinforce the L-series’ unmistakable profile.
Controls are equally distinctive: a top-mounted reciprocating charging handle, heel-style magazine release, and ambidextrous thumb safety. The integral grip with finger grooves offers a solid hold, while the hooded post front sight and square-notch rear sight provide a clear iron-sight picture.
As a pre-1994 production gun, this L-9 is exempt from the former Federal Assault Weapons Ban and predates California’s assault-weapon restrictions, further enhancing its appeal to collectors and enthusiasts looking for historically significant semi-automatic pistols.
