Remington Rand produced approximately 877,000 M1911A1 pistols during WWII; this frame, serial 15458XX, falls within the 1943 production block and carries the boxed “F J A” inspector stamp along with a faint “P” proof. The slide is an Ithaca replacement, a common field or depot swap that kept service pistols operational through the late war years and beyond.
The pistol’s forged carbon-steel frame and slide wear an even parkerized grey finish that remains consistent with U.S. military rebuild standards. Rear-only vertical serrations, a short WWII-pattern serrated trigger, and fixed GI sights (half-moon front, square-notch rear) preserve the original handling characteristics.
Internally, a post-war replacement barrel marked “7791193” provides serviceable accuracy. The bore is bright, with strong rifling and only minor wear — meeting the CMP’s Service Grade requirements for functional integrity.
Original WWII Type 2 Keyes-style brown checkered plastic grips offer the correct wartime appearance without medallions. Standard GI controls include a grip safety, thumb safety, and lanyard loop mainspring housing, completing the period-correct layout.
