The electroless-nickel finish on the 19.5-inch barrel and stamped-steel receiver cover offers added corrosion resistance and contrasts with the black Zytel stock. This finish was factory-applied to the Apache Black variant.
Introduced in 1959, the Nylon 66 was the first mass-produced rifle to use polymer for both stock and receiver core. The one-piece Zytel design trims weight while maintaining rigidity, and its molded checkering, white diamond inlay, and white-line spacers give the rifle its distinctive look.
A 14-round tubular magazine housed in the buttstock feeds the straight-blowback action. The right-side charging handle, cross-bolt safety, and 13.75-inch length of pull make operation familiar to most shooters.
Iron sights consist of a fixed ramp front with matte blade and an elevation-adjustable rear leaf. Grooves on the receiver cover accept tip-off scope mounts, allowing easy optic installation without gunsmithing.
With approximately 221,000 produced, the Apache Black is one of the scarcer Nylon 66 variants. The “A” serial prefix marks this example as a post-1977 rifle, placing it among the later runs before production ended in 1989.
