Springfield Armory M1 Garand .30-06 Semi-Automatic Rifle | Late-1950s CMP Release, Walnut Stock, Parkerized Finish
This Springfield Armory M1 Garand is a late-production example released through the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Built in mid-1956 and numbered among the final 200,000 Garands made at the U.S. Government armory, it pairs a gray-green parkerized forged-steel receiver with matching walnut furniture. A bright, excellent bore and Type 2 rear sight assembly make this rifle a strong candidate for shooting, collecting, or CMP Vintage Rifle competition.
Condition
Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.

Springfield Armory completed this rifle in 1956, placing it near the end of M1 Garand production. The serial range, DOD eagle acceptance stamp, and CMP boxed eagle cartouche confirm its government origin and later CMP release.
The rifle retains its original gray-green parkerized finish on the forged-steel receiver, barrel, and major components. This finish remains even and durable, providing the classic look associated with post-Korean War Garands.
Furniture consists of a CMP-replacement walnut stock and handguards with a dark oil finish. The stock features a trap-door butt-plate for cleaning-kit storage and bears the boxed CMP eagle marking.
Sighting is handled by the correct Type 2 aperture rear sight with fine-knurl windage and elevation knobs, teamed with a wing-protected front post. Together, they deliver the precise, repeatable adjustments valued by match shooters.
Inside, the 24-inch barrel sports an excellent, bright bore with sharp rifling, ready to take advantage of the rifle’s classic short-stroke gas piston and rotating bolt system. The historic 8-round en-bloc clip feeds smoothly, keeping the rifle eligible for CMP Vintage Rifle and John C. Garand matches.
