Product Description

U.S. Armament Abilene .44 Magnum 8.5" Revolver — Early Riverhead NY Production

This first-generation Abilene revolver was built in Riverhead, New York between 1972 and 1976 and carries the “50-” serial prefix that denotes its .44 Magnum chambering. It features the longest factory barrel offered at 8.5 inches, a flat-top frame with Ruger-style coil-spring internals, and a recessed six-shot non-fluted cylinder. Collectors value these early U.S. Armament examples for their limited production run, robust carbon-steel construction, and classic polished blued finish complemented by walnut grips with brass US ARMS medallions.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Very good condition, showing only light, superficial signs of prior handling or use.
Bore Condition: Excellent – Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
Rifling Condition: Excellent Rifling – Sharp lands and grooves.
Specific Condition Notes: Displays only minor handling marks with no notable finish loss; bore remains bright and free of fouling.

    What’s Included

    • Brown leather flap holster

Early Riverhead production Abilene revolvers were built before Mossberg acquired the design, making them the most sought-after examples among enthusiasts. The polished blued carbon-steel frame, cylinder, and 8.5-inch barrel give this full-size wheelgun a commanding presence while maintaining smooth, clean lines.

The recessed, non-fluted cylinder enhances strength and showcases the Abilene’s distinct profile. Combined with the flat-top frame and spur hammer, the revolver delivers classic single-action ergonomics favored by many big-bore shooters.

Adjustable iron sights—a ramped, serrated front blade paired with a square-notch rear—allow precise elevation and windage tuning, letting the shooter dial in heavy .44 Magnum loads for hunting or target work.

One-piece walnut grips with brass US ARMS medallions provide a secure, comfortable hold while underscoring the revolver’s period-correct aesthetic. Overall, this scarce, well-preserved Abilene offers collectibility, shootability, and the desirable traits of early U.S. Armament manufacture.
