Remington Model 11 “The Sportsman” 16 Ga Semi-Auto Shotgun, 28" Barrel, Mod Choke, Factory Duck Engraving
Remington’s Model 11 “The Sportsman” blends John M. Browning’s groundbreaking long-recoil design with a lighter, three-shot configuration aimed at hunters who valued both reliability and game-law compliance. This late-production 16-gauge example features the factory single-duck roll engraving introduced in 1937, adding immediate visual appeal and collector interest. The crimped two-round magazine tube, 28-inch Modified-choke barrel, and bright bore round out a shotgun that remains ready for the field while holding solid historic value.

What’s Included
- Remington Model 11 “The Sportsman” 16 Ga semi-automatic shotgun
Developed from the Browning Auto-5, the Model 11 was America’s first successful autoloading shotgun. The Sportsman variant seen here leaves the factory with a permanently crimped magazine for a 2+1 capacity, satisfying many states’ three-shot hunting regulations without the need for a plug.
Chambered for 2 ¾-inch shells, the 28-inch barrel wears a Modified choke—an all-around constriction favored for upland birds and small game. A single brass bead up front offers a simple, unobstructed sight picture.
The receiver’s factory-rolled single-duck game scene is clear and sharp, making this shotgun stand out among plainer Model 11s. Matching “THE SPORTSMAN” markings on the bolt confirm the correct three-shot configuration.
Walnut furniture includes a semi-pistol-grip stock capped with Remington’s hard butt-plate, plus a slender beavertail forend that fills the hand without excess bulk. Both pieces display original checkering that remains well-defined.
