The Model 740 Woodsmaster is a gas-operated semi-automatic rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield, pairing classic Remington design with a 22 inch barrel and a 4+1 capacity. This Standard Grade configuration carries the hallmark features of early production Woodsmaster rifles.
This example is set up with a Lyman receiver-mounted aperture sight. The factory barrel rear sight has been removed and the dovetail filled, providing a clean sighting plane. A receiver-top scope base block is installed. The receiver was factory drilled and tapped for scope mounts and receiver sights.
The walnut furniture is uncheckered with a straight-comb buttstock and a serrated Remington hard buttplate. The semi-beavertail fore-end with finger-groove relief offers a comfortable forward hold and complements the rifle’s classic profile.
Markings include the Remington REP proof and a two-letter barrel code GB. The barrel is marked with U.S. Patent 2,473,373, consistent with the period-correct features of first-generation Woodsmaster production.
