The pre-transfer-bar configuration identifies this as an Early Model 929, with the AG serial prefix indicating 1970 production. H&R’s two-point latch system requires pulling the ejector rod forward to unlock, allowing easy cylinder removal. A protective safety rim is machined at the rear of the cylinder.
The Sidekick layout delivers nine-round capacity in .22 LR with a DA/SA action and exposed hammer. The 2.5-inch barrel keeps the package compact, while the fixed ramp/blade front sight and top-strap groove rear sight provide a straightforward sight picture.
Construction is machined steel throughout with a blued finish, including the fluted, left-side swing-out cylinder and star ejector. The round-butt black checkered synthetic grips feature H&R medallions. Weight for the 2.5-inch version is approximately 23.5 oz.
Markings include the barrel legend "MODEL 929 22 CAL." and the frame address "H&R INC. WORC. MASS. U.S.A." The Model 929 series was introduced in 1956; the transfer-bar Second Model followed in 1974, with production concluding in 1986.
