Smith & Wesson Model 59 1st-Gen 9mm, 4" Barrel, DA/SA, Blued Slide & Alloy Frame
Smith & Wesson’s first-generation Model 59 helped launch the modern high-capacity 9mm era. This 1977-1978 example carries the early A-prefix serial number, PAT’S PENDING slide marking, and the classic blued steel slide over a dark anodized alloy frame. With its double-stack 9-round magazine, DA/SA trigger, and slide-mounted decocker/safety, this full-size pistol showcases the innovation that later shaped S&W’s entire metal-frame lineup—and it was manufactured in the U.S.A.

What’s Included
- Smith & Wesson Model 59 pistol
- Four 9-round steel S&W factory magazines
This first-generation Model 59 blends 1970s engineering with features still valued today. The double-action/single-action system offers a smooth initial pull followed by crisp single-action shots, while the slide-mounted safety doubles as a decocker for safe hammer lowering. A magazine disconnect and firing-pin safety add layered mechanical protection.
The blued slide wears vertical serrations for positive manipulation and houses an external extractor for reliable case ejection. Fixed iron sights—a ramped front blade and drift-adjustable rear notch—provide a clear, snag-free sight picture.
The dark anodized aluminum-alloy frame keeps weight down without sacrificing durability. Checkered black synthetic grip panels with S&W medallions fill the hand and maintain the pistol’s period-correct look. A rowel hammer and left-side button magazine release complete the familiar S&W control layout.
Produced between 1971 and 1982, roughly 231,800 Model 59 pistols left the factory. Early examples like this A-prefix gun remain sought after by collectors and shooters who appreciate their role in shaping the “Wonder Nine” category.
