The barrel and sighting system are set up for precise shooting, with a serrated barrel rib and topstrap to reduce glare, a Patridge front blade, and an S&W micrometer-style fully adjustable rear sight.
Controls and ergonomics include a double-action/single-action system, a smooth-face trigger, and an exposed wide checkered spur hammer. Checkered wood target stocks with S&W medallions and a square-butt frame complete the classic target profile.
Factory markings include right-barrel rollmarks for SMITH & WESSON and 44 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG., the right-frame S&W logo with TRADE MARK, and the Springfield address block. The yoke cut is marked MOD. 24-3.
This reissue series from the early 1980s was a limited production run, with approximately 7,500 blue steel 4-inch and 6 1/2-inch guns produced circa 1983–1984 in the United States.
