Product Description

Winchester Model 1890 Third Model Takedown .22 Short Pump-Action Rifle, 24 Inch Octagon Barrel (mfg. 1912)

This Winchester Model 1890 is a Third Model Takedown rifle chambered in .22 Short and manufactured in 1912. It features the coin-slot takedown screw, external bolt lock, and top-ejecting action specific to the Third Model pattern. A 24 inch octagon barrel marked "MOD. 1890" and "22 SHORT," along with a 20-round under-barrel tubular magazine, anchors this historically significant rimfire that is closely associated with shooting gallery use and designed by John and Matthew Browning.

    What's Included

    • Winchester Model 1890 Third Model Takedown .22 Short pump-action rifle

The Third Model Takedown configuration includes the coin-slot takedown screw on the right side of the receiver and an external bolt lock. Its top-ejecting action and takedown design make transport and maintenance straightforward while preserving the rifle's classic operating characteristics.

The rifle is chambered for .22 Short only and is not interchangeable with other .22 rimfire lengths. A 24 inch steel octagon barrel is clearly marked "MOD. 1890" and "22 SHORT." Feeding is via an under-barrel tubular magazine with a 20-round capacity in .22 Short.

Sighting equipment consists of open iron sights: a front blade in a dovetail and an adjustable open rear leaf with an elevator. The exposed hammer, blued steel receiver and barrel, and overall blued finish maintain the period-correct configuration.

Furniture includes a grooved walnut slide handle, a straight-grip walnut stock, and a crescent steel buttplate. Length of pull measures 13.0 inches, maintaining authentic proportions and handling for the Model 1890 pattern.

Manufactured in 1912, this example aligns with the Model 1890's longstanding reputation in gallery shooting and small-bore training. Designed by John and Matthew Browning, it represents a notable early 20th-century Winchester pump-action rimfire with features specific to the Third Model.
