The Mark I variant was originally engineered to accept the Pedersen Device, and this example falls in the later double-heat-treated receiver range. It uses the classic Springfield 1903 cock-on-opening bolt action with a gas-relief hole and a three-position wing safety. The receiver ring is marked "U.S. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1903 MARK I."
This rifle has been sporterized, with an aftermarket one-piece wood stock featuring a pistol grip, white-line spacers at the grip cap and forend tip, a black forend tip, and a black grip cap. A ventilated 'GUN PADS' recoil pad is fitted, and front and rear sling swivel studs are installed. The length of pull measures 14.0 inches, and there is no military upper handguard.
The barrel measures 20 inches and wears practical iron sights: a Williams adjustable rear barrel sight and a ramped front sight with a dovetailed blade. The rifle has been sporterized; it likely has been rebarreled, and rifle sights have been installed.
The receiver bridge is drilled and tapped with a small mount block installed. Feeding is via a 5+1 internal magazine with a hinged floorplate, consistent with the Model 1903 pattern. Overall, the configuration provides a clean, functional sporter setup while retaining the core Springfield 1903 action characteristics.
