This M1 is based on a Springfield Armory WWII receiver and falls within an approximate September 1942 production range. The heel is marked 'U.S. RIFLE / CAL. 30 M1 / SPRINGFIELD / ARMORY,' and the original caliber marking remains despite the later conversion. No importer marks or commercial rollmarks are visible on the receiver.
The rifle is converted to 7.62x51mm NATO/.308 Winchester, offering compatibility with both cartridges as specified. It retains a 24-inch steel barrel with a crowned muzzle and uses the standard M1 8-round en-bloc clip system. The gas system remains the classic M1 layout.
Hardware details include the standard M1 gas cylinder with stacking swivel, front sling swivel, bayonet lug, and single-slot gas cylinder lock screw. The finish is Parkerized over steel, consistent with military configuration and intended durability.
The stock set is walnut with an oil finish, including a full pistol grip stock and two-piece walnut handguards. A steel buttplate with checkering and a trapdoor is fitted. Sights are correct M1 iron sights: a wing-protected front blade and a rear aperture/micrometer unit with click windage and elevation drums.
Length of pull measures 13.0 inches, aligning with classic M1 geometry. The action is the well-known semi-automatic, gas-operated system using a long-stroke operating rod and a rotating bolt.
