Caspian Arms 1911 Frame with Springfield Armory 1911-A2 SASS .357 Magnum Single-Shot Upper, 10.7 inch Heavy Barrel, Burris 2x Scope
This custom single-shot build pairs a Springfield Armory 1911-A2 SASS upper with a Caspian Arms steel 1911 frame. It is a break-open, single-action .357 Magnum with a 10.7 inch heavy barrel and recessed crown, built around the late-1980s, discontinued SASS concept. Scope-only configuration with a Burris 2x handgun scope and factory-style 1911 controls make this an uncommon, purpose-built setup.

This example uses the Springfield Armory 1911-A2 SASS break-open single-shot upper on a Caspian Arms 1911 frame. The SASS project was a late-1980s, tool-free single-shot conversion for 1911 frames, and this configuration follows that design closely with a capacity of 1.
Chambered in .357 Magnum, it features a 10.7 inch heavy-profile steel barrel with a recessed crown. The action is break-open and single-action. 1911-pattern controls are retained, including a grip safety and left-side thumb safety, along with a spur hammer and a wide, smooth-face trigger.
The pistol is configured for scope-only use. A top scope base and rings are installed, and a Burris 2x handgun scope is mounted. No iron sights are present.
Markings on the upper read "Springfield Armory USA" and "1911-A2 SASS," along with patent "4,914,845." The frame is marked "Caspian Arms Ltd., Hardwick, VT U.S.A." The steel frame wears a matte black finish, and the grips are wraparound black finger-groove panels with wood inlays and medallions. Made in the USA, with origins in the late 1980s.
