Built by FEG in Budapest and marked with the wartime "jhv" maker code, this G 98/40 is a 1943 production rifle accepted with Waffenamt eagle WaA173. The receiver wall carries the "G 98/40" model marking, the receiver ring is dated "43," and a 7,92 caliber stamp is present. Waffenamt cartouches appear on the barrel shank, receiver, and stock.
It uses a controlled-feed bolt action with a straight bolt handle and external claw extractor. The rifle feeds from a 5-round internal fixed magazine and is charger-loaded via the guide at the rear bridge. A right-side bolt-shroud safety lever is fitted.
The 24" barrel is paired with iron sights: a hooded tunnel front post and a tangent-leaf rear sight with metric graduations. This sighting arrangement reflects its wartime configuration.
The one-piece hardwood stock with a separate upper handguard features a left-side sling system with a rear butt anchor plate and front side loop, and ends in a flat steel buttplate. Metal components wear a blued finish, and the muzzle area has the under-barrel longitudinal rail/dovetail bayonet interface.
Multiple matching serial numbers were observed on the receiver, rear sight, bolt handle root, front barrel band, floorplate/trigger guard assembly, and stock.
