Built by Zastava Arms (Crvena Zastava), the M57 is the Yugoslav 7.62mm service pattern with a lengthened grip frame and proprietary 9-round magazine format, giving this example a 9+1 capacity. The slide is marked "7.62mm M57" and carries the Yugoslav socialist six-torch crest, with matching serials on the slide, frame, and barrel for added completeness.
The pistol uses a short-recoil, locked-breech, single-action system with an exposed rowel spur hammer and a push-button magazine release. Sights are fixed, with a blade front and square-notch rear. A lanyard loop at the heel supports traditional carry methods.
Safety features include a half-cock notch and a magazine safety, along with an importer-added frame-mounted thumb safety featuring a red index dot. The slide has rear cocking serrations and longitudinal anti-glare serrations along the top to reduce glare.
Construction is all steel with a uniform blued finish on both slide and frame. Markings include the PW ARMS REDMOND WA import stamp and a BK acceptance/inspection mark, which is also observed on at least one factory M57 magazine. The 4.57 in barrel and excellent, mirror-bright bore further underscore the pistol’s well-kept condition.
