The SP1 configuration showcases a fixed carry handle A1 upper receiver with no forward assist and no brass deflector, with the dust cover present. It uses a direct impingement gas system with a rotating multi-lug bolt and a bright/chrome-finished bolt carrier. The slabside lower receiver has no magazine-release fence, consistent with early SP1 production.
The 20-inch lightweight pencil barrel features a chrome-lined bore and a threaded muzzle fitted with an A1-style birdcage flash suppressor and lock washer. The barrel is marked "C MP B," and the twist rate is 1:12. An early flat slip ring and a front sling swivel riveted under the front sight base are present.
Sighting is via A1 iron sights, with an elevation-adjustable front post and a windage-adjustable rear aperture. Furniture includes a fixed A1-type stock with a trapdoor buttplate, an A1 checkered pistol grip, and rifle-length polymer handguards. The length of pull is 13.0 inches.
Receivers are aluminum alloy with a hard-anodized black finish, paired with black polymer furniture. The rifle retains its bayonet lug, and it was manufactured in the United States in the 1970s. It is pre-ban (1974) and part of Colt’s Sporter series, with an SP-prefix serial range consistent with early SP1 rifles.
