Imported by Clayco Sports of Clay Center, Kansas, this AKS Semi-Auto is a pre-ban configuration from the early–mid 1980s. The rifle retains clear importer and origin markings: "CLAYCO SPORTS CLAY CENTER-KS," "AKS SEMI-AUTO 7.62x39MM," and "LING HUA FACTORY MADE IN CHINA." The top cover carries the characteristic Clayco warning: "ALTERATIONS TO THIS FIREARM ARE UNSAFE AND ILLEGAL."
It follows the Chinese Type 56 pattern with a stamped sheet-steel receiver, smooth top cover, and polished in-the-white bolt carrier. The long-stroke gas system features a ported gas tube, and the exterior wears a traditional blued finish. The barrel measures approximately 16.3 in and ends in a plain muzzle with no device.
Sighting equipment includes an open-ear front post with bayonet lug and a tangent rear sight graduated to 800 meters. The platform is chambered in 7.62x39 with a 30+1 capacity, and the length of pull is listed at 13.5.
The furniture is Polytech, with a fixed wood buttstock, black-lacquered wood handguards, and a ribbed polymer pistol grip. This configuration, combined with its pre-ban Clayco provenance and Made in China origin, underscores its appeal as a collectible and historically significant import.
