Custom-barreled by Gilbreath, this Model 70 is chambered in .300 Rem. Ultra Mag. and wears a 26-inch sporter contour barrel with a recessed crown and no iron sights. The barrel is roll-marked "Gilbreath 300 Ultra Mag," clearly identifying the work.
The Classic controlled-round-feed bolt action and 3-position wing safety offer the handling characteristics associated with the Super Grade line. Feeding is via an internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate, with a 3-round capacity. The receiver is marked "WINCHESTER," drilled and tapped, and currently set up with installed two-piece bases and 1-inch rings.
The Super Grade walnut stock includes a left-side shadowline cheekpiece, cut checkering, forend metal cap, decorative crossbolt, and inletted sling swivel bases. A Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad and checkered pistol grip round out the configuration, with a 13.25-inch length of pull for a refined fit.
Additional context on provenance: the rifle carries a G-prefix serial, and notes indicate it was possibly manufactured in 1956 or 1969. The G prefix and low serial number have made exact dating difficult.
