Built in 1918 under U.S. Army contract, this Colt M1911 exhibits the hallmark WWI configuration: long smooth trigger, flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop, short grip-safety spur, and small fixed GI sights. The right slide bears the "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY" legend, while the left side shows the patent and maker roll marks with the Rampant Colt behind the rear serrations.
The pistol features a uniform matte gray refinish over its steel components. Later-style fully checkered brown synthetic grip panels are installed, consistent with service replacement patterns. The slide retains vertical rear serrations and an unmodified GI ejection port, with a small staked front blade and small fixed rear notch.
Internal and external controls present in GI pattern, including a wide-spur, checkered hammer; thumb safety and grip safety; and a GI-style barrel bushing with a checkered recoil-spring plug. The action is single-action with a short-recoil, locked-breech system, and the trigger is the classic long, smooth type.
Provenance is a key strength here. This pistol was released through the DCM and is accompanied by its Red River Army Depot shipping box and matching DD Form 1149/1149-4 paperwork dated November 18, 1964. The documentation aligns with the pistol’s serial, confirming the DCM history and adding a desirable layer of authenticity.
