The Model 165 Leatherneck is a .22 LR semi-automatic blowback rifle that traces its lineage to the USMC Reising Model 65 .22 trainer. This commercial variant retains the Leatherneck name and concept, pairing a .22 LR chambering with a detachable box magazine design (magazine not provided).

Construction is all-steel with a blued finish, including a steel receiver and barrel. The one-piece hardwood sporter stock has a straight comb and pistol-grip wrist, and is fitted with a factory hard-rubber buttplate bearing the H&R monogram. Sling swivels are installed, and the fore-end is retained by a band.

The rifle uses a concealed cocking handle located under the fore-end, a distinctive feature of the Leatherneck series. Length of pull measures 13.5 inches, offering a traditional sporting fit.

Sighting equipment includes a ramped bead/blade front and a receiver-mounted aperture sight base; the sight staff is not installed. The receiver top is drilled and tapped in multiple positions. A functional one-piece steel scope base and screws are provided, along with a vintage small-tube scope that is not functional; neither component is installed.

Factory rollmarks include "Harrington & Richardson Arms Co., Worcester, Mass., U.S.A." on the receiver, and "LEATHERNECK" and "MODEL 165 — 22 CAL. LONG RIFLE ONLY." on the barrel. This example reflects the 1940s, post-war era of H&R manufacture in the United States.
