What's Included
- Gustloff-Werke Mauser Mod. 98 sporterized bolt-action rifle chambered in .284 Winchester
This build starts with a WWII-era receiver marked bcd 41 for Gustloff-Werke (Weimar) 1941 production, with Mod. 98 on the left rail and controlled-round-feed Mauser 98 action. The receiver ring and receiver are drilled and tapped for a scope base, and the internal magazine is the standard staggered-column design with a hinged floorplate for 4+1 capacity.
The rifle has been rebarreled to .284 Winchester with a 24 inch sporter-contour barrel. The barrel is plain with a matte finish, and the original iron sights have been removed. This chambering, paired with the Mauser action, provides a versatile sporter configuration.
The stock is an aftermarket walnut sporter with a cheekpiece, fluted/relieved comb, and cut checkering on the forend and grip. It includes a pistol grip with black cap, white-line spacers at the grip cap and buttplate, and a plastic buttplate. A sling-swivel loop is fitted in the forend. Length of pull measures 14.0 inches.
The metal has a matte dark refinish that complements the sporterized profile. A wartime German eagle proof (often called the "Dirty Bird") is visible on the left side of the receiver; other proof marks are covered by the refinish. Small parts are stamped 5940, and the rifle retains the three-position flag safety. Overall, it clearly shows a refined sporter conversion with attention to both function and appearance.
