The Gold Cup National Match was Colt’s flagship target 1911 of the era, and this Pre-Series 70 example retains the key features that made it stand out. It is a full-size, single-action-only .45 ACP with a 5 in barrel and 7+1 capacity, built in the USA in 1967 on a steel frame and slide. The short-recoil, tilting-barrel operating system follows the proven Government Model pattern.
Target upgrades are central to this pistol. The match, hand-fitted barrel is paired with an Elliason-style adjustable rear sight and a fixed, staked front blade. The slide is flat-topped with longitudinal anti-glare serrations and a flat, serrated rib, and it has rear cocking serrations only for a clean, purpose-built profile.
The trigger is the classic Gold Cup wide, lightened target design with two oval relief cuts, providing a refined feel aligned with precision shooting. A wide-spur, serrated hammer complements the setup, while a standard magazine release, thumb safety, and grip safety maintain the familiar 1911 manual of arms.
Grip and frame details reflect period-correct configuration: checkered walnut stocks with gold Colt medallions, an arched mainspring housing with vertical serrations, and a GI-style recoil spring plug with standard barrel bushing. The NM serial suffix denotes its pre-Series 70 status, adding desirable context for collectors of 1960s-era Colts.
