The Model 37 Airweight pairs a carbon-steel, blued 5-shot cylinder with an aluminum-alloy, black anodized J-frame to achieve the Airweight configuration. Its 1.875-inch barrel is factory pinned, reflecting period-correct construction, and the revolver retains Smith & Wesson barrel and frame rollmarks with the S&W crest.
Operation is double-action/single-action with an exposed, checkered-spur hammer and a standard service-width, color-casehardened trigger. Sighting is straightforward and durable: a serrated ramp front sight integral to the barrel and a fixed rear groove.
This example features the unshrouded, knurled ejector rod with front locking lug, a factory round-butt grip frame, and checkered walnut Magna grips with S&W medallions. Assembly numbers are present on the yoke and frame recess, consistent with factory fitment practices of the period.
Made in the USA during the early J-prefix production period (1969–1970), this Airweight reflects the classic lightweight J-frame formula while retaining the era’s signature details like the color-casehardened hammer and trigger and the pinned barrel construction.
