The Model 81 Woodsmaster was introduced in 1936 and discontinued in 1950, and this example is marked on the left side of the receiver with "THE WOODSMASTER / TRADE MARK / MODEL 81." The right side is marked "Remington / REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." and it is serial numbered in the 15887 range. The caliber marking on the rifle is ".300 / SAV."
This rifle is built with a blued steel receiver and a blued steel barrel, and it uses a tubular barrel jacket/sleeve that is characteristic of the design. The stock set includes a wood pistol-grip buttstock and a slim wood fore-end, keeping the profile traditional and straightforward.
