Product Description

    Remington Model 720 .270 Win. Bolt-Action Rifle, 24 in Barrel, 1942 Production, Rare Short-Run with Stith-Mounted 330 Scope

This 1942 Remington Model 720 is a scarce, commercial-configuration rifle from a short production run of about 2,427 units. Chambered in the less common catalog option of .270 Winchester, it retains its 24 inch blued barrel and classic Remington sporting features. A period 330-marked steel-tube scope is mounted in an M.L. Stith side mount, adding notable period-correct appeal for collectors and enthusiasts.

    What’s Included

    • Remington checkered steel buttplate, serial-numbered inside
    • 330-marked steel-tube scope with external micrometer-style adjustments
    • M.L. Stith side mount (San Antonio, Tex.)
    • Leather rifle sling

Built during the WWII era and lacking U.S. Navy ordnance cartouches, this Model 720 presents as a commercial sporting configuration. The receiver ring is rollmarked "MODEL-720," and the left receiver/barrel junction is stamped ".270 WIN." The barrel address "Remington Ilion Works / Made in U.S.A." is present, underscoring its U.S. manufacture and period-correct production details.

The rifle features a 24 inch blued barrel and an internal box magazine with a 4-round capacity. Its cock-on-open "speed-lock" firing system and one-piece bottom metal with a hinged floorplate reflect Remington’s premium sporting design of the time. A swept, polished bolt handle with a round knob completes the action’s classic profile.

Stocked in walnut, the rifle includes cut checkering, a straight comb, and inletted sling swivels for a clean, traditional look. It wears a steel, checkered Remington-logo buttplate that is numbered to match the receiver. Iron sights are retained, with a barrel-mounted rear leaf.

A period-correct 330-marked steel-tube scope is mounted in an M.L. Stith side mount, stamped "M.L. STITH / SAN ANTONIO, TEX." The optic’s external micrometer-style adjustments and the distinctive side mount complement the rifle’s early-1940s sporting setup. Combined with the short production run and less common .270 Win. chambering, this example has strong collector interest.
