What’s Included
- Remington Sportsman-58 20 Gauge semi-automatic shotgun
The Sportsman-58 is Remington’s first gas-operated autoloading shotgun and the direct precursor to the Model 1100. This 20 gauge example uses a gas system and action spring housed in the forward magazine tube. An adjustable gas regulator integrated into the knurled magazine cap (often called the Dial-A-Matic) lets the user tune operation for light or heavy 2 3/4-inch loads.
The 26-inch plain (non-vent-rib) barrel is stamped 20 GA. FOR 2 3/4 OR SHORTER SHELLS and IMP CYL, and it wears a single front bead sight. The receiver is right-side ejecting with an external bolt handle and a matte, serrated anti-glare strip along the top.
Aesthetically, the receiver is roll-marked Remington Sportsman-58 and decorated with factory roll-engraved hunting scenes showing upland birds and pointing dogs. The shotgun retains its blued finish and classic walnut furniture, including a pistol-grip stock and checkered walnut fore-end with an inset round grip-cap medallion. The hard-rubber buttplate is marked Remington TRADE MARK, and the length of pull measures 14.0 inches.
Proof and inspection codes U D G Z are present. Produced in the United States between 1956 and 1963, the Sportsman-58 line totaled about 271,000 units across all gauges. Capacity on this 20 gauge configuration is 2+1.
