This Model 639 is the stainless counterpart to the Model 439 and represents S&W’s second-generation single-stack 9mm design. It uses a short-recoil, locked-breech action with a DA/SA trigger system and an exposed spur hammer. The left-side, slide-mounted safety/decocker provides positive control of the firing system.
Sighting equipment is set up for precision with a fully adjustable target-style rear sight paired to a serrated, ramped front blade integral to the slide. Vertical rear slide serrations enhance manipulation. The rounded trigger guard reflects the era’s styling and handling preferences.
The pistol wears checkered walnut grips with inset S&W medallions, offering a firm, traditional hold. The frame is stainless steel with a matching stainless slide finish, delivering corrosion resistance and a clean, uniform appearance well-suited to regular use.
Factory rollmarks and proofs include "MADE IN U.S.A. MARCAS REGISTRADAS SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS." and the S&W "Trade Mark Reg. U.S. Pat. Off." logo, along with the Model 639 rollmark on the frame.
Capacity is 8+1 with the included single-stack steel magazines.
