This SP1 presents the early Colt Sporter pattern with a 20-inch lightweight pencil barrel and threaded muzzle fitted with the prong-type closed-tip flash suppressor. It retains the A-frame front sight base with the A1 front post and the A1 rear aperture contained in the fixed carry handle with windage drum.
The upper receiver is the desirable slick-side configuration with no forward assist or case deflector. The lower receiver is the slab-side style without a magazine-release fence and uses the large 0.315-inch screw front pivot pin, matching the period-correct SP1 architecture.
Furniture is true to the era: a fixed A1 buttstock with a 13-inch length of pull, A1 checkered pistol grip, and two-piece triangular polymer/fiberglass handguards secured by a round slip ring. The receivers are forged aluminum alloy with a hard-coat anodized finish and carry Colt Hartford rollmarks including "COLT AR-15 / CAL .223 / MODEL SP1."
Chambered in .223 Rem with a 20+1 capacity and a detachable box magazine design, this semi-automatic, direct impingement rifle reflects Colt’s 1970s production. It is pre-ban, manufactured in 1974, made in the United States, and identified by the R6000 catalog designation.
