Built in the United States, the Model 639 represents the stainless evolution of the earlier Model 39, with production ending by 1988 before the line transitioned to the Model 3906. Its Second Generation design and early rounded-trigger-guard configuration give this pistol notable period-correct features collectors and enthusiasts recognize.
The pistol uses stainless steel for both the frame and slide with a satin/bead-blast finish, paired with a 4" stainless barrel. Slide details include an external extractor and the S&W-style muzzle bushing ring, reflecting the robust construction of this series.
Controls are classic S&W DA/SA with a slide-mounted safety/decocker and a firing pin safety. The left-side magazine release, single-stack 7-round magazines, and 7+1 overall capacity make for a straightforward, familiar manual of arms.
Sights are iron, with a ramped blade front in a pinned base and a micrometer-style adjustable rear for precise elevation and windage tuning. Checkered walnut grips with S&W medallions provide a secure hold and a period-correct aesthetic.
