An unmounted micrometer aperture rear sight with rubber eyecup and an adjustable fore-end palm rest are included.

Specific Condition Notes: There is an extensive crack that runs completely through the pistol grip. The stock will likely need to be replaced.

Built for international free rifle competition, this Model 40-X is a single-shot, bolt-action .22 LR with a dedicated loading/ejection port and no magazine well. It is manufacturer marked Remington Arms, Ilion, New York, and carries a barrel date code of 'CK' on the left shank along with small inspector stamps, aligning with its 1963 production year.
The 28 inch steel barrel wears a blued finish and is fitted with two barrel-mounted target blocks. The bore is excellent, with a clean, mirror finish and sharp lands and grooves, supporting the rifle’s precision-focused design.
The walnut stock, finished in an oil-type finish, is configured for right-handed competition use. It includes a thumbhole, right-hand palm swell, an offhand shelf, an inletted T-slot accessory rail, an adjustable hooked buttplate, and spacer plates. Length of pull is 12.0 inches.
Sighting equipment includes a micrometer aperture rear sight with rubber eyecup (included but unmounted). The front sight is not installed. The barrel-mounted target blocks are present on the rifle.
As an early, first-generation 40-X marked example in the International free rifle configuration from the 1960s, this U.S.-made Remington reflects the specialized features and adjustability expected of UIT/ISU-targeted builds of its era.
