Produced at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (Izhmash) in 1944, this M44 is a wartime Mosin-Nagant carbine built with a round receiver and blued steel finish. The barrel shank carries the 1944Г date and Soviet state crest, accompanied by the Izhevsk triangle-with-arrow and additional inspection marks. An import rollmark reading "M44 RUSSIA 7.62 x 54R" is present.
The M44 configuration centers on a 20-inch carbine barrel and the integral side-folding cruciform spike bayonet mounted on the right side. Sighting is via a hooded front post and a tangent rear sight graduated in meters. The action is the classic bolt-action system with a straight bolt handle and a fixed internal 5-round magazine with stamped trigger guard and floorplate.
Furniture includes a hardwood stock with a shellac-type arsenal finish and a matching wood upper handguard. The stock features inlet sling slots with metal escutcheons, two stamped barrel bands, and a steel buttplate. Length of pull measures 13.25 inches.
The bore condition stands out: it is bright with a mirror finish and sharp lands and grooves. Overall presentation reflects a genuine WWII-era carbine from the USSR with correct Izhevsk markings and typical wartime materials and finishes.
