Manufactured at the Koishikawa (Tokyo) Arsenal, this Type 38 is the long rifle variant with a 31.5 inch barrel and chambered for 6.5x50mm Japanese. It uses a five-round internal box magazine and is fed by stripper clips. The bolt-action system retains the large knurled rear safety knob, and the action is noted as smooth.
The rifle is configured with a hardwood stock featuring long grasping grooves and a separate hardwood upper handguard. It has a steel buttplate with a two-screw pattern and a sling swivel mounted on the belly of the buttstock. Two barrel bands are fitted, with the front band incorporating a Type 30 bayonet lug.
Sighting equipment consists of iron sights: an unhooded front blade and a tangent/ladder rear sight with a sliding cursor and Arabic-numeral graduations. The length of pull measures 13.0 inches.
Notable collector and configuration details include the presence of the Imperial chrysanthemum crest on the receiver, a receiver dust cover that is installed (seller notes it may be non-original), and non-matching parts. These attributes, combined with Tokyo Arsenal manufacture, identify this as a representative long rifle Type 38 with period-correct features.
