Built at Rifle Factory Ishapore as the 7.62mm 2A1, this rifle is not a .303 conversion; it was manufactured for 7.62x51 NATO from the outset. The SMLE-pattern action features the charger bridge and stripper-clip guide and uses the traditional cock-on-close operation familiar to Enfield users.
This example has been sporterized: the barrel has been shortened to 21", the fore-end furniture is shortened, the original SMLE nosecap is removed, a non-factory front sight block is installed, and a cylindrical muzzle extension is fitted. Sighting is via a protected front post and a barrel-mounted tangent ladder rear with a windage knob.
The two-piece, oil-finished hardwood stock set retains classic Enfield ergonomics, including a straight wrist, a steel buttplate with trapdoor, and sling swivels. Length of pull measures 13.5". An Allen Company padded camo/black nylon sling is installed.
Chambered in 7.62x51 NATO, the rifle uses a detachable 10-round 2A/2A1-pattern steel magazine, with a stated 10+1 capacity. The receiver is steel, and controls include a manual safety lever.
Markings include the Ashoka emblem crest on the receiver and an "SA" stamp on the buttstock, consistent with Indian production of the 1966.
