Built at Springfield Armory and marked "U.S. MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY." on the receiver, this Krag-Jorgensen is chambered in .30-40 Krag and retains the right-side integral magazine with hinged loading gate and the left-side magazine cut-off lever. Capacity is 5+1.
The rifle has been sporterized with a 24-inch sporter barrel and an aftermarket sporter stock featuring a schnabel forend. A Pachmayr ventilated recoil pad with a spacer stack sets the length of pull at 14 inches, and sling swivels are installed. The receiver and other metal parts wear a blued finish.
For optics, the receiver and barrel are drilled and tapped for a side scope mount, and a Weaver SIDE-1TH side-mount base is installed with Weaver rings. A scope with a duplex reticle is currently fitted. Iron sights are retained, with a ramped front blade and an open sporting rear with a stepped elevator.
Operation is characteristically smooth for the Krag action, and this example stands out for its clean bore with defined rifling, crisp trigger, and practical sporter configuration that balances classic design with field-ready features.
