Built by Izhmash in Russia, this Saiga retains the core AK-74 mechanical layout with a semi-automatic, gas-operated, long-stroke piston system and a rotating bolt. It uses a stamped steel receiver with magazine-well dimples and includes a manual bolt-hold-open lever ahead of the trigger guard.
The 16.3 in hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel is configured with an unthreaded, plain-crowned muzzle. Sights are traditional AK iron sights: a protected front post and an adjustable AK tangent rear leaf graduated 1–3.
Furniture is the black polymer sporter configuration, including a Monte Carlo stock with a checkered grip area and a sporter fore-end with an integrated front sling loop. The length of pull is 13.5 in, overall length is 43.5 in, and weight is approximately 7.63 lb (catalog). A two-position safety lever controls the action.
Markings include "SAIGA 5.45x39" on the receiver, the Cyrillic model mark "САЙГА," Izhmash/Kalashnikov logos, "MADE IN RUSSIA BY IZMASH," a cluster of Russian proof/certification stamps, and a "14" stamp on the left receiver. Importer marking is "RWC Group LLC, Tullytown, PA USA," aligning it with the RWC import era prior to 2014. Capacity is 10+1, with a polymer sporter-pattern magazine installed.
