What's Included
- Remington Model 40-X Custom Shop single-shot rifle chambered in .244 Remington
This 40-X is configured as a true single-shot target rifle with a 1-round capacity and a heavy 27.5 inch straight-contour barrel. The recessed target crown supports consistent accuracy, and the barrel is drilled and tapped with provision for scope blocks or bases. There are no iron sights.
Built in the Remington Custom Shop, this early example is chambered in .244 Remington, a cartridge later renamed 6mm Remington. The polished bolt body with a turned-down round knob complements the rifle’s precision-focused build.
The walnut stock features a beavertail fore-end, straight comb, and pistol grip. It is uncheckered and fitted with sling swivel studs, a hard-rubber buttplate, and a white-line spacer. Length of pull measures 13.5 inches, offering a stable interface for target work.
Both receiver and barrel wear a blued finish. The rifle was manufactured in the United States and is precisely dated to October 1956 by the Remington barrel date code "ER," aligning it with the 1950s era of the 40-X series.
