This Model 5946 is a DAO variant with no slide-mounted safety or decocker. The slide carries circular plugs in place of those controls, and the hammer is bobbed for a smooth draw and snag-free profile. The frontstrap has longitudinal grooves, and the trigger guard is rounded.
The pistol is built on a stainless steel frame with a matching matte stainless slide. Sights are fixed Novak Lo-Mount 3-dot units, dovetailed front and rear for a low, duty-ready sight picture. The one-piece wraparound black synthetic grip features checkering and S&W medallions.
Markings include "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MA U.S.A." on the left side of the slide, "Mod 5946" on the frame, and "9MM PARABELLUM" on the barrel hood. The rear sight is marked "NOVAK'S PAT. D230516."
Capacity is 14+1 with the included double-stack steel magazines, which have numbered witness holes to 14. Chambering is 9mm Luger, and the barrel length is 4 inches. Made in the United States, this Third Generation 5900 Series pistol reflects the robust, duty-focused design widely authorized by agencies such as the NYPD and RCMP during the 1990s.
