Product Description

    Smith & Wesson Model 42 Airweight Centennial .38 Spl. DAO J-Frame Revolver, 1.875 in. Barrel, 5-Shot (1972–1973)

This Smith & Wesson Model 42 Airweight Centennial is a J-frame, double-action-only revolver with an enclosed hammer, built in the early 1970s. It pairs an aluminum-alloy frame with a carbon-steel barrel and cylinder, delivering the classic Centennial configuration in a lightweight package. Marked with the period-correct rollmarks and features, and falling in the L-prefix serial range for late production, this example reflects 1972–1973 manufacture.

    What's Included

    • Black leather belt holster with retention strap

The Model 42 Airweight Centennial is a five-shot .38 Special built on S&W’s J-frame, featuring a DAO, enclosed-hammer system and a grip safety. This configuration minimizes external snag points while maintaining familiar S&W controls and a consistent double-action trigger stroke.

Construction combines a black-anodized aluminum-alloy frame with a blued carbon-steel barrel and fluted cylinder. The barrel measures approximately 1 7/8 in., and the cylinder uses a non-shrouded, knurled ejector-rod tip. A late-style raised, checkered cylinder release latch is fitted.

Sights are fixed, with a serrated ramp front and a topstrap groove rear. Smooth walnut service stocks with S&W medallions complete the factory-style handling and period look.

Markings include right-side barrel rollmark "AIRWEIGHT 38 S&W SPL. CTG." and left-side "SMITH & WESSON," along with the S&W monogram on the right sideplate. The frame carries "MADE IN U.S.A. / MARCAS REGISTRADAS / SMITH & WESSON / SPRINGFIELD, MASS." The L-prefix serial range denotes late production (circa 1968–1974), with this revolver dated to 1972–1973 and made in the United States.
