This 1888 Ithaca New Ithaca Gun Crass is an American-made, hammerless boxlock double with hallmark period features. The top-lever opening and extractor-only configuration reflect the design of Ithaca’s early hammerless doubles. The sliding safety on the lower tang and double triggers complete the traditional control layout.
The 30 inch London Twist (Damascus) barrels have a solid rib marked "ITHACA GUN CO., ITHACA N.Y. LONDON TWIST," and the receiver sides are marked "NEW ITHACA GUN." These factory markings, combined with the period casehardened receiver, reinforce the gun’s late-19th-century Ithaca identity.
Mechanically, it uses bushed, screw-retained firing pins—an identifiable detail of the era and model. The forend is a classic splinter style, and the stock set is walnut with a pistol grip and checkered wrist, topped by a hard-rubber Ithaca-logo buttplate. Length of pull measures 13.5 inches.
Collector-oriented details include serial number 7190 on the water table and forend iron, and 7490 on the barrel assembly, indicating a non-matching barrel set. The piece sits firmly in the 1880s Ithaca timeline as an early hammerless SxS in 12 gauge, made in the USA, and configured with a two-round capacity.
