The Handi-Rifle uses a break-action, external-hammer design with a transfer-bar safety and a 1-round capacity. Per factory literature for .223 Handi-Rifle barrels, this example uses a positive extractor (non-ejector) for controlled, manual case extraction.
The 22-inch round sporter-profile steel barrel has an unthreaded muzzle with a plain crown and no iron sights. The receiver is drilled and tapped for optics and is currently equipped with a Weaver/Picatinny-style scope base. A one-piece, see-through integral 1-inch ring/base mount is clamped to the base by two crossbolts, providing straightforward scope mounting.
The hardwood stock set features a straight-comb buttstock and slim fore-end, complemented by a recoil pad with a white-line spacer. Sling swivel studs are installed for easy attachment of a carry sling. Length of pull is 14.25 inches, and the metal carries a traditional blued finish.
A hammer spur extension is installed to improve hammer access when a scope is mounted. The receiver rollmark references U.S. patent 3,988,848, and production of the NEF/H&R Handi-Rifle line concluded by 2015. This rifle was made in the United States in Gardner, Massachusetts.
