What's Included
- Harrington & Richardson Topper Jr. Model 490 20 Gauge single-shot shotgun
The Topper Jr. Model 490 uses a simple top-lever, break-action, external-hammer design with a 1-round capacity. The receiver is rollmarked "TOPPER JR. MODEL 490 / HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON, INC / WORC. MASS.
USA." The barrel is marked "20 GA. 3" MOD," confirming the 3 inch chamber and fixed Modified choke.
Built with a 26 inch steel barrel and a brass front bead, this shotgun has no rib and no rear sight, offering a straightforward sighting setup. The smoothbore is clean and bright, matching the excellent bore condition noted.
The hardwood stock and forearm are walnut-stained and uncheckered, with a pistol-grip, straight-comb profile. A factory H&R-logo red ventilated recoil pad with a white-line spacer is fitted at the butt. The forearm is retained by a single through-screw, consistent with factory configuration.
The color casehardened receiver contrasts with the blued barrel for a classic H&R look. A circled "P" stamp is present among the markings. The AJ-prefix serial aligns with early-1970s production, supporting the documented 1972 manufacture year and providing helpful period context.
