This First Model .444 Marlin features the classic 24-inch barrel, twin barrel bands, and a two-thirds length tubular magazine for a 4+1 capacity. It uses the 336-pattern action with side ejection and a round bolt, and it retains the standard-size lever loop and gold-colored trigger. The steel receiver and barrel wear a traditional blued finish.
The steel barrel uses Marlin’s Micro-Groove rifling with a 1:38 twist. The bore condition is excellent, and the rifling shows sharp lands and grooves, consistent with careful use.
Sighting equipment includes a ramped front sight with a brass bead, while the rear barrel dovetail is filled with a blank; the front sight hood is absent. The receiver is drilled and tapped, and a Weaver scope base with 1-inch rings is installed.
The American walnut stock has a Monte Carlo comb, a ventilated Marlin recoil pad, and distinctive white- and black-line spacers. It is smooth and uncheckered, with sling swivel studs and a leather sling attached. Length of pull is 14.0 inches. An exposed hammer is present; a JM-marked clamp-on spur extension is installed, and the rifle uses a half-cock hammer safety.
