Designed by John M. Browning and produced from 1908 into the 1940s, the Model 1908 Vest Pocket is one of Colt’s most recognizable pocket autos, with approximately 420,000 made. This example dates to 1920, squarely in the interwar period, and reflects the company’s internal Model N designation.
The pistol is built on a carbon steel frame and slide with a Carbona Blue finish. Small parts, including the trigger, safety catch, and grip safety, show color case-hardening. The grips are black checkered hard rubber with the "COLT" banner and Rampant Colt emblem.
Mechanically, it is a blowback, single-action, striker-fired design with a 6+1 capacity in .25 ACP. Safety features include a grip safety, a manual safety, and a magazine disconnect safety. The slide has rear vertical serrations for purchase.
Sights are fixed iron types, with a low-profile front blade and a fixed rear notch. The right side of the slide is marked "COLT AUTOMATIC / CALIBRE 25," and the left slide legend carries the address and patent dates ending July 31, 1917, noting the Tansley magazine-disconnect patent. Country of origin is the United States.
