Manufactured in West Germany and imported by HK Inc. of Sterling, VA, this SP89 carries the "KA" 1990 date code and Ulm proof mark, confirming its pre-ban provenance. It is the semi-automatic SP89 pistol variant derived from the MP5K, retaining the compact MP5K-length cocking tube and K-pattern configuration.
The pistol uses HK's closed-bolt, roller-delayed blowback operating system with a stamped/welded steel receiver and a polymer trigger housing/lower with grip. Controls include an HK-style magazine release, a manual "0/1" safety selector, and the classic left-side charging handle.
Its 4.5" barrel is non-threaded with no tri-lug, consistent with original SP89 pre-ban configuration. Sighting is via HK diopter iron sights with a hooded front post and a rotary rear drum. The K-pattern polymer handguard features an integral hand-stop, and the K-style rear endcap includes a sling loop.
The MP5-pattern detachable box magazine interface supports broad magazine compatibility and a capacity up to 30+1. This example includes one 30-round and one 15-round steel magazine, marked "MKE" and "JA," adding useful context for parts provenance.
Markings include "Made in W-Germany," the HK Inc. Sterling, VA import stamp, the Ulm proof, and "KA" date code. Together with its original SP89 configuration, these features establish this pistol as a correct pre-ban example from 1990.
