This Model 44 uses a semi-automatic, gas-operated short-stroke piston system with a rotating bolt, designed to run .44 Rem Magnum ammunition in a compact carbine format. The solid-top receiver is drilled and tapped for optics, and the filler screws are currently installed. Ejection is to the right side.
The fixed under-barrel tubular magazine holds 4 rounds plus 1 in the chamber and is loaded via the bottom inlet cover. Controls include a cross-bolt safety. A single steel barrel band with a front sling swivel stud (no swivel installed) and a black hard-plastic carbine buttplate complete the carbine layout.
Sighting is via a ramped brass-bead front and a folding adjustable leaf rear. The sight hood is not present, as shown in the images. The 18.5 inch barrel keeps the package handy while maintaining classic carbine proportions.
The stock is walnut with a straight-comb, uncheckered profile, paired with a traditional blued finish. With a 13.5 inch length of pull and late-1970s production, this 1978 Ruger Model 44 represents the standard configuration from that era.
