Produced under the Walther factory code "ac 44," this pistol dates to 1944 wartime manufacture at Zella-Mehlis. It carries Heereswaffenamt e/359 acceptance stamps on the slide and barrel, along with the German military eagle mark—clear military inspection indicators from the period. The slide and frame show matching serials within a letter-suffix block, a desirable detail for collectors tracking originality.
The P.38’s DA/SA mechanism is paired with a slide-mounted safety/decocker, with the traditional red "F" paint fill. Its short-recoil, locking-block operating system and open-top slide with rear serrations reflect the model’s well-known design. An external spur hammer, a loaded-chamber indicator pin, and a lanyard loop at the grip base round out the service-ready configuration.
Chambered in 9mm Luger, this full-size pistol uses an 8+1 capacity with a 5-inch barrel. Sights are fixed iron—blade front and notch rear. The pistol wears a blued finish over a carbon steel frame and slide, and comes fitted with ribbed brown Bakelite grip panels consistent with wartime production.
Made in Germany, this example combines hallmark WWII markings, correct features, and matching slide/frame numbers. The inclusion of two period-style steel magazines with witness holes and a P.38-pattern leather flap holster (stamped "P.38" inside) adds practical value to the package.
