Built in 1986 by the Glenn Nelson Custom Shop for Springfield Armory, this Super Match M1A carries clear provenance supported by included printed materials. The receiver heel is marked "U.S. RIFLE 7.62-mm M1A SPRINGFIELD ARMORY," and the rifle predates the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban.
The rifle uses the M14-type gas system with lock and plug, a semi-automatic, gas-operated, rotating-bolt action, and a 22 in barrel. A slotted M14 flash suppressor is installed. The receiver and metal components wear a matte gray phosphate finish appropriate to the model and era.
Furniture includes a wood stock fitted with a GI steel buttplate, flip-up shoulder plate, and trapdoor compartment, paired with a USGI-style ribbed fiberglass handguard. An OD green web sling is installed. Length of pull is 13.0.
Sighting equipment consists of a protected front post on the standard M14 sight base and an M14-pattern hooded aperture rear sight with windage and elevation drums. A USGI TRW operating rod is installed and marked "7790186 TRW ZG."
Chambered in 7.62mm NATO (7.62x51), this rifle feeds from a detachable box magazine and includes one 10-round steel M14-pattern magazine. It was manufactured in the United States during the 1980s and remains in excellent overall condition with a mirror-bright, sharply rifled bore.
