The Model 88 uses a hammerless lever action with a rotating, front-locking multi-lug bolt and a short-throw lever. This design delivers a secure lockup while retaining fast lever operation. The rifle feeds from a detachable box magazine, and this example includes two 5-round steel magazines.
This is the standard 22 in rifle configuration (not the 19 in carbine), built with a blued steel receiver and barrel. The receiver is a solid-top pattern, factory drilled and tapped for scope mounts; no scope base or rings are installed. Capacity is 5+1 in .308 Winchester.
The walnut stock features the post-1964 pressed basket-weave checkering with oak-leaf/acorn panels, a straight comb, and sling swivel studs. Length of pull measures 13.5 in.
Sights are open: a ramped front sight base and a barrel-mounted open rear sight. No front sight hood is present.
Markings include "MADE IN U.S.A." and "WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL." Production corresponds to 1964 per factory serial reference, with manufacture in the United States. The bore condition is excellent, with sharp rifling, supporting strong downrange potential for the .308 Win chambering.
