Jing-An Type 56S "Spiker" 7.62x39 Pre-Ban GSAD Import, 16.3 in Threaded Barrel, Folding Spike Bayonet, Wood Stock, 3 Magazines
This Chinese Type 56S "spiker" is a pre-1989 GSAD Manhattan Beach import with its classic features intact, including the integral underfolding spike bayonet, bayonet lug, and threaded muzzle with detent and thread protector. Built by Jing-An and marked "GSAD MANH. BEA., CA," it has a stamped receiver with magazine-well dimples, wood furniture, and a 16.3-inch barrel. Chambered in 7.62x39 with a 30+1 capacity, it represents the desirable pre-ban configuration from the 1980s.
The rifle retains many correct Chinese pattern details: a 90-degree gas block with forward sling loop, an open-ear front sight base, and a tangent rear sight with distance graduations. Note: the top cover is a ribbed, bright (in-the-white) AKM-type piece and appears non-original for a Type 56S.
The long-stroke gas system uses a rotating bolt, and the stamped receiver shows the expected dimples and riveted trunnions. Most metal surfaces are blued; the top cover is a ribbed, bright (in-the-white) AKM-type cover that appears to be a replacement.
The 16.3-inch barrel is threaded and secured by a detent, with a thread protector in place. Iron sights are standard, combining the open-ear front sight with the graduated tangent rear. Capacity is 30+1, and this rifle comes with three 30-round steel AK-pattern magazines.
Manufactured during the 1984–1988 timeframe, this Jing-An export Type 56S carries the GSAD Manhattan Beach import mark and reflects the classic, collectible pre-ban configuration with folding bayonet and threaded muzzle intact.

This GSAD-import Type 56S highlights the sought-after "spiker" configuration with its folding spike bayonet and Chinese pattern details. Note: the top cover is a ribbed, bright (in-the-white) AKM-type piece and appears non-original for a Type 56S. The 90-degree gas block with forward sling loop, open-ear front sight base, and graduated tangent rear sight give it the distinctive profile associated with 1980s Chinese AK-pattern rifles.
Its 16.3-inch barrel is threaded with a detent and thread protector, and the stamped receiver features the proper magazine-well dimples and riveted trunnions. The rifle presents a predominantly blued finish with matching wood furniture; the top cover is ribbed and bright (in-the-white) and appears non-original.
Chambered in 7.62x39 with a 30+1 capacity, this rifle operates via a gas-operated, long-stroke piston system with a rotating bolt. The import mark reads "GSAD MANH. BEA., CA," and the overall configuration aligns with pre-1989 imports that retain the bayonet lug and muzzle threads.
